“I’ve an interesting little social item…”
A bunch of guys go full housewives renting a cottage for a weekend in Prince Edward County (PEC) with a slate of activities planned including a tour of the local wineries complete with sprinter van and driver. This chronicles not the shenanigans that went on (others in the group have gathered that particular sort of evidence). This, however, highlights the places we’ve seen and some of the wines that have made it home.
First stop: Sandbanks Winery
We opted for a dealer’s choice approach, with a focus on their exclusive items – I mean, if you’re going to go HW, you’re going to insist on sampling the best and most exclusive, right? Of note, I took this opportunity to shop for a thank you present for my neighbour who all season long also mows my side of our shared front lawn and who once mentioned being a fan of sweet whites and ciders.
Second stop: Norman Hardie
Exquisite wines at Norman Hardie and took home a bottle of John Bil, saving it for a future oyster dinner.
Third stop: Sugarbush Wineries
Family owned and operated winery, where Richard Peck himself led our tasting session – full of anecdotes.
Final stop: Huff Estate Wines
While each of the wineries that we visited were awesome, Huff Estate is probably my favorite, based on the amount spent there on wines to bring home. I fell hard for The Nightcap, a gorgeous, fortified white that’s the perfect end to a great tour, and (as tested since) a great meal in good company.
